Alcantara Gorges

The formation of the Alcantara riverbed dates back to about 300,000 years ago. These are gorges up to 25 meters high and, at their narrowest points, 2 meters wide and at their widest points 4-5 meters wide.

The peculiarity of this gorge lies in the structure of its walls, created by basaltic lava flows.
