It is clear to anyone visiting Forza d'Agrò for the first time that the love for a past rich in glory, history, culture, and tradition restrains the tendency toward frantic innovation.

The hamlet, known by the name "Vicum Agrillae," is mentioned in a document from 1117 when it was donated, along with its inhabitants, to the Monastery of SS. Peter and Paul of Agrò.

The term "Forza" appears in documents from the first half of the 14th century, when a new feudal family built its own castle in the hamlet of "Forza," started a new administrative management, and facilitated its building development.

In 1810 the fortress of Agrò was occupied by British forces.

Like a balcony over the Ionian Sea, from the terrace of its viewpoint, you can admire the coast stretching from Messina to Syracuse, with Taormina and Castelmola, the bay of Giardini-Naxos, and the imposing volcano Etna.

In 1971, the historic center of Forza d'Agrò, along with that of nearby Savoca, was chosen by Francis Ford Coppola as the setting for numerous scenes of "The Godfather."

Not to be missed:

  • Church of SS. Annunziata
  • Church of SS. Trinità
  • Church of San Francesco
  • Church of Sant'Antonio
  • Historic Palaces
  • Norman Castle
  • Quartarello
